Print (Text) features: heading, bold print, italics, bullets, caption, pronunciation guide

Why Authors use Print Features:

-help readers locate information

-bring attention to certain words or phrases

-present steps in procedures or items in lists

-emphasize facts or ideas 

 

Graphic Features: illustrations, maps, charts, time lines, diagrams, graphs

Why Authors use Graphic Features:

-make text visually appealing for readers

-provide examples of or details about ideas

-to show location, order of events, or parts of objects described in texts

-help reader understand ideas beyond what is described in the words of texts.

-help readers visualize information from the text

Vocabulary:

 

Matter: anything that has mass and takes up space

Mass: the amount of stuff in something

 

Physical Properties: the look, feel, taste, sound, or smell of an object

 

Texture: how rough or smooth something is

 

Flexibility: the quality of bending easily without breaking

 

Temperature: it tells how cold or hot something is and it is measured with a thermometer

Magnetism: is a force of nature that works over a distance in order to pull an object made out of certain metals like iron, cobalt, and nickel

Ability to Float: can stay on top of the surface of water

Ability to Sink: can go below the surface of water
